Weekly Reading Homework

Reading Homework Monday-Thursday

  • students make a good fit/just right book choice for independent reading
  • students are provided a large ziploc bag to house their book and composition notebook
  • each night students should read a minimum of 20 minutes
  • during or after reading students should use notebook to record: the title of their book, date, and a stop and jot about their reading
  • students were taught to "listen to their inner voice while reading" asking how it is connecting to their book
Here are a few samples of "stop and jots" from students this year:
"I think Henry is not happy because Risby found his real owner."
"Gladys tried to sell his brother Claude to the police. He must really not like him."
"I thought it was funny when Mrs. Godfrey told Nate he couldn't chew gum unless he had enough to share with the class, and he did!"
"I remember when I hit a home run and Harry did too!"
